Gardens & Grounds

The Front Yard

The front yard is the perfect place for lawn games, intimate weddings, and small music performances.  Over time Cassandra’s goal is to increase the flexibility of this space while creating a stronger sense of definition and visual appeal.  Specifics thoughts is the planting of a perimeter colonnade, bermed plantings to screen parking, several direct entrances and exit points, increased entry court area, water feature, and improved venue space.

The Rear Yard

The rear yard is a guests-only area that currently features a pond with fountain, a vine covered arbor and swing, grape vines, and a scenic backdrop of dogwoods and landscape beds. With a south facing exposure, goals for the rear yard include shaping the visual boundary, borrowing views, adding lots of color, and encouraging user interaction and relaxation.

The West Yard

The west facing side yard is the location of a small brick patio and herb garden from the 80s that is currently being revitalized in situ.  Future intentions include a new brick patio to accommodate a small party tent and outdoor dining, a functional greenhouse, a rose garden, and herb garden and water features.

The East Side

To the east, Cassandra plans to plant a privacy hedge with wrought iron man-gates as indicative of private country estates at the turn of the century.  Dotted with mature trees, considerable shade is cast on this side of the property.  Shade tolerant ground covers and shrubs currently provide a substantial planting bed around the foundation, but the richness of this area could be enhanced with additional plantings for texture, color, scale, mood, and seasonality.  A portion of this area may feature a moon garden, which consists of mostly green and white color scheme.
